The organizers had a bunch of things going on to make things interesting...
First off, the lanes were set for No-Tap scoring. I had never heard of this before. Apparently in No-Tap, if you knock down nine pins in your first ball of a frame it counts as a strike. No-Tap led me to my highest scoring game ever--202! Of course I think about half the strikes I scored in that game were No-Tap strikes and the other half were 'natural' strikes, as they called them.
They also had some colored pins mixed in with the regular white ones. If a colored pin got set as your headpin, they'd give you a dollar for getting a strike.
They also had a bunch of other silly challenges that they were offering money and coupons for completing such as facing away from the pins and rolling the ball backward between your legs, kicking the ball with your foot down the lane, purposely getting a split, etc., etc.
Anyway, it was tons of fun and Lissa and I came away with a few dollars and several food and bowling coupons. Yay! We're now thinking about joining a summer league that uses No-Tap scoring throughout. We have a few weeks to decide though...it doesn't start until the middle of May.
