First of all, I count 28 heads in the group photo, and I'm pretty sure there's another one hiding in there. yourcarsucks was behind the camera, one person had already left, and four more arrived after. So that makes for 35 by my count...give or take. That's roughly comparable to the past couple years, but somehow it felt less crowded this time around. I guess we've gotten more space-efficient. :P
I parted with a few traditions this year. I dropped the "Brian's Bemani Birthday" moniker in favor of the more lame and obvious Brian's Birthday Revolution. I think I had just been holding onto the BBB initials from the second party (Brian's Birthday Boogie), but the BBR intials probably would have gone better with the last two BBBMAX and BBBMAX2 parties.
I did, however, follow the naming convention of matching the party number with the corresponding DDR mix. This being the 8th year, was Extreme. Though in some intentional irony, Extreme was never played during the party. ;) For whatever reason, I can't get excited about a SuperNOVA title for next year's party (I don't own that game anyway, nor do I really expect to by then). Maybe I'll really change it up next year...
I also decided to have pizza delivered for the first time this year. In previous years I had done carry out and the past couple years I've done Papa Murphy's take-n-bake and actually baked the pizzas here at the house. The problem with those is that they tend to take me out of the party for awhile and I've been feeling like I've missed out on things. This year I made a pact with myself to avoid doing "work" at the party and stay a part of the action as much as possible. I'm very pleased to have accomplished just that and had a really good time as a result.
Many thanks go out to those who brought me cool gifts this year!
juwi_bean helped break my white sock boredom with some sweet orange frog socks...very cool! Make fun of me all you like, I'm excited about these socks.
Chad and the B-town crew all pitched in to get me a delightfully
ryogakari got me a flier from the original US release of DDR. This thing is MINT! It will look fabulous with the other music game collectibles I seem to be accumulating and finally getting around to displaying.
The B-town girls brought a snappy card. It was very sweet of them...and now I have all their signatures for when they are all famous celebrities!
shammers framed a picture from our T-Bone/B-Bone cosplay at ACen 2004 so long ago. I've been trying to dress up my office with pictures of family, friends, and fun times. This will fit right in!
And last, but certainly not least, jasondread brought a money shot from Team Money Shot. 'Nuff said.
We took the infamous clock picture at about a quarter to 5 am. So, about 12 hours on this year's party. Not a record, but I was kind of hoping it wouldn't be since I was already pretty tired by that point anyway.
All in all, I declare this year a great success. My thanks to everyone who came. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. I know I sure did! I'm already looking forward to next year and any other little get-togethers in the meantime.
Go see all the pics...
