rhymes with orange

asianangel_neko commented about my hair being dyed again in a reply to a post last week.  I guess I haven't made any posts about hair color in a long time because it's become the norm for me.  Except for the spring/summer of 2007 while I was in Jesus Christ Superstar, I've been continuing to color my hair in bright, unnatural shades.

As you can see from the picture from last Tuesday right after I got it recolored, my hair is currently orange.  I think this is my first orange since way back in 2005.  I've been all across the rainbow since then (actually, I think I started in 2004).  I've definitely learned what I like and don't like...

Red seems to be kind of the default, fallback standard.  It is my favorite color, afterall.  I've probably had that color the most often.  The only problem with it is that it tends to fade pretty fast into an increasingly blah pink.  I don't really have a problem with pink, but it does tend to be somewhat culturally unacceptable on a boy.  Besides, if I was going to do pink, I'd do PINK--like OMG HOT PINK!

Blue is really cool, but it fades even faster than red.  And it fades into this kind of algae green as the bleached blonde starts to come through.  The Glad folks taught us that yellow and blue make green, right?

I like purple.  It's dark enough that it can be kind of subtle.  Sometimes people don't even notice the color right away and think it's the lighting.  And then they look more closely and are like...whoa!  It fades, too, but it just fades into lighter purples and generally doesn't look horrible in the process.

It's been a long time since I've done orange, but I like it.  As it fades, it just turns blonde.  I can live with that.

I did not like green.  I like green ok as a color, but I just didn't like it on my head.  I think I only did it once.  Maybe I'll try a different shade sometime, but I just can't get excited about it.

I didn't like yellow either.  It just looked like a weird blonde--like a mistake or something.  Oh well.

Elise also mentioned that my hair is longer.  That's true.  The JCS show asked me to grow it out.  It was kind of a shaggy mess by the time the show closed.  I trimmed it up considerably after that, but I've been keeping it longer than before ever since.

In other news, I'm actually current on reading my friends page!  Here's to hoping this is the fresh start I was looking for of staying up with both sides (reading and writing) of LJ more regularly.
