Did a little something different last night that ended up being a mini cultural experience. Lissa and I went to the Verizon First Ladies Tour concert at Conseco Fieldhouse. The ladies were Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, and Missy Elliot.
I got the tickets free through work. Definitely not the kind of thing I'd have gone to otherwise, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. Missy Elliot is not my type of thing at all. I'm pretty sure Lissa pretty much hated that part of the show. Personally, I neither liked nor disliked it.
Alicia Keys is incredibly talented. I've enjoyed hearing her stuff on the radio, but I'm not rushing out to buy her album or anything. Still, you've gotta give mad props to a girl that can make piano cool to an audience that was just bumping and grinding to Missy Elliot.
Beyoncé is also very talented. As the headliner, her part of the show was the most produced. All the lighting, pyro, video screens, and other stage effects were pretty cool. Once again, I enjoy the music, but it's just not my typical fare. (Just look at my current music for verification of that fact.)
We were a bit late, so we actually came in about halfway through Missy Elliot. But we got to see all of Alicia Keys and Beyoncé.
As for that cultural experience...well, I was there reppin' my Asian brothas and sistas! Yeah, I had two confirmed Asian sightings all night (other than myself). There were also two unconfirmed sightings...one was a woman I saw from behind. Her hair appeared the right color/texture to be Asian, but I never saw her from the front. Lissa also pointed out that one of the backup dancers looked Asian, but I couldn't quite tell for sure. :P
Reality check, Brian...there aren't that many Asians in this town anyway. ;)
