Muddling through...but things are going well

First and foremost, Widget is home and seems to be doing alright. The vet examined him, and his urethra was irritated causing him to have some trouble urinating. There was a little blood in his urine, but no crystals causing a blockage as there were earlier this year. In fact, she said that the environment wasn't favorable for crystal growth. So his new diet must be working.

They're not exactly sure what is causing the inflammation this time, but it's not serious compared to last time. So they prescribed a few medications to help fight any infection and make him more comfortable. We're just going to keep an eye on him for a few days, but he already seems pretty normal. Yea!

This has been a really rough week at work...lots of long hours and short deadlines. Just yesterday, I was up until about 3 in the morning working on a project (working at home, thankfully), worked a little more at home in the morning, went into the office late morning, and worked all the way through to a little after 8 helping move our servers from the first floor to the second floor in the office. But in the end, I got through all the stuff I needed to and have made it through to today (Saturday) where I have some fun stuff planned.

I got my jacket back that I left in the hotel closet in Atlanta. I got the ball rolling on some lingering estate stuff from ages ago. I had a successful series of computer upgrades with no glitches. So in all, it's been a long and busy week, but it's been productive and things have gone well. I am pleased.

The end of IndyDDR?

It has now been over a week since I last logged into the IndyDDR Forum. Frankly, I don't really miss it. I have a feeling that at the point I do login I'll just be disappointed in one of two ways: 1) There won't be anything interesting, or 2) There will be another stupid flamewar going on.

Meanwhile, the server that IndyDDR.com is hosted on is going to be taken out of production and the hosting service has asked that I start paying if I want to continue to host with them. It's not a ton of money, but IndyDDR doesn't exactly make me money either (it usually costs me in incidentals). It could become a money hole as well as a time hole.

So now I'm faced with a decision of whether to look for a new host for free, look for a new host for cheap, or stay with the current host (hopefully for cheap). Or...do I just quit? IndyDDR doesn't have near the value to me it once did and I question whether it's worth continuing. It has been more frustrating than anything.

I can't say that I care all that much about DDR anymore either. It's still something that I enjoy and enjoy getting together with people to play, but I have virtually no desire to attend any special events for it or to organize one.

However, I can't deny the connections I've made to some amazing people over the years as a result of IndyDDR and I believe that others have benefited in the same ways. I'm sure it still has that potential amidst the tedium that has overtaken it. I could possibly find the will to continue for the legacy that it represents and the hope that, as DDR eventually passes from mainstream back into obscurity, it may return to the friendlier, more close knit community it once was. It's just too big right not to be what it was when I first fell in love with the game and its people so long ago.

I guess I'll dive in and see what's going on there now and maybe let it help me guide my decision.

AWA wrap up

Here's that AWA wrap up post I was promising...

First off, unlike thenarus andyuritdo who felt like something was missing for them because they were merely attendees and not working at the con, I feel like I actually got more out of this one than at ACen earlier this year. A lot of that was simply that I had a better idea of what to expect and that I actually participated in some of the events and sessions going on there. Overall I had a very enjoyable time and look forward to future events. Who knows...I might actually become an anime fan. :P

So, that's pretty much the trip. I'm glad I went and managed to survive--without playing any DDR or eating any pocky! ;)
