I just spent the last two hours filling out forms, cutting bar codes, and addressing envelopes in preparation to submit a dozen rebates for things I've purchased over the past month or so...everything from software, to webcams, to a new laptop. The grand total: $700 in rebates! Holy crap that's a lot of rebates!

Rebates definitely make for good deals, but they can definitely be a real pain in the ass, too...especially dealing with so many at once. But I figure I'm willing to play their little game if the winning is this big. I'm sure it will take me a good half hour tomorrow just to make copies of all this stuff.

I have a pretty high redemption rate and a good system for myself to not lose out. I keep copies of everything and setup a schedule for me to check up on outstanding rebates that I have not yet received. As a result, I get far more than I lose. I've had to make some calls to chase after a few now and then, but for the most part I get what I'm supposed to with no more than the initial effort like I put forth tonight.

A little (music) help, please?

What is this song?

identify me!

I think this was the theme music to television coverage of the Olympics (or possibly of the games themselves) like 10 years ago. I think it was the Winter Olympics, but I can't remember the exact year. However, I could be remembering it completely wrong altogether. But I do seem to recall that it was something I heard first on television in the context of sports.

Anyway, I've had this MIDI file of the music for a long time since then (identified only by the filename 'olympic.mid'). But I've never been able to find out what the actual piece of music is called or who composed it so that I could find a real-life performance of it. I even bought a CD of various Olympic theme music once in the hope that it would be on there. But alas, it was not.

I still hear this get played every once in awhile. Most notably (for me), they play it over the loudspeakers at Cedar Point where it drives me crazy because I still don't know what it is. So anyone who can help me shed some light on this mystery will have years of my pent up gratitude.
