Begin: Project Week!

It's that time of year again...The time when I blow the remaining vacation days I've squandered away during the year. I get 20 days of paid time off (PTO) each year. But those days are "use 'em or lose 'em," so if I don't use them by the end of the year they just go away. They don't roll over to the next year and I don't get any sort of credit for them.

I always try to ration my PTO days throughout the year so that I'll have some available if something comes up that I want to take off from work for. But what has always happened is that the end of the year comes and I still have a bunch left. This is my third year with the company, and I think I've had at least one or two that I didn't use in the previous two years.

But this year, I was determined to make this work and I'm left with only five here in the final weeks of the year. So I decided to take off this coming week before Christmas. It's a great way to really maximize my time off at a "reduced cost." We get December 26th off "for free" since Christmas falls on a Sunday this year. That means that I get this weekend, all next week, the next weekend, and the following Monday off from work. That's a total of 10 consecutive days for the price of five! Whoo!

I've been looking forward to this for the past few weeks, and I think it's kinda made me a little lazy. I've been putting off some projects that I probably could have done with the thought that I'd do them this week. So I have a relatively long list of things I want to try to get done--many of which are projects that have been backburnered for a year or more. We'll see how I fare.

Here's a project list for my own bookkeeping so I won't forget and can keep track of what I've done and how much I have to go. I know I won't get to all of these, but it will be good just to have a list to refer to.

I also haven't read LJ in a week or so. I was somewhere in the skip=150 range the last I checked. There's a lot of video projects on the list that will no doubt take some rendering time. I may be able to catch up while I'm waiting.

Lots of LJ

As I mentioned in my previous entry, I'm really behind on reading my friends page. I just took a look to see how far...skip=200. Apparently I haven't read since Dec. 6, so about a week and a half.

Meanwhile, it seems that LJ is giving out some early Christmas presents. 10 GB storage for permanent account holders...neato! I was really nowhere near my previous 100 MB limit, but I had considered that over time I might have to take some pictures off. Now I don't think that's going to happen for the foreseeable future. In fact, I think I may bump up the size of pictures I post in the future. Of course if they start allowing video storage in Scrapbook, then all bets are off. ;)
