WWE! ... WTF?!

I went to see the WWE All-American Bash at Conseco Fieldhouse on Sunday.  Perhaps that seems out of character for me...and I suppose it is.  But I actually did used to watch pro wrestling.  My mom, of all people, got me into it back in the late 80s/early 90s.  We kinda quit watching when the ratio between wrestling action and fake drama tipped in favor of the latter.  Regardless of it being fake, there is still quite a bit of excitement, showmanship, and athleticism to what these guys do.  But watching these guys yell and scream at each other like big, dumb cry babies wasn't particularly entertaining to us. ;)  As a result, I haven't really watched wrestling in years.

The last time I went to a live event, it was a Market Square Arena, and it was to see the likes of Ultimate Warrior and Macho Man Randy Savage.  The flash, glitz, and spectacle of the presentation has obviously been kicked up a few notches since the last time I went, but the tried and true formula was still very much present.  Of course the fact that this was a pay-per-view event probably upped the ante a bit as well.  In many ways I had seen all this before; only the names/faces had been changed to protect the aged.  Although the fact that The Undertaker was on the card for the night and they ran a promo for Hulk Hogan made me think that perhaps they should be thinking about forming a geriatric league of the WWE. :P

I got the tickets free from my work, so I figured 'what the heck.'  I took Josh along with me since I knew he was a more current fan.  All-in-all, it was good formulaic fun.  I probably like it for the same reason I like pop music.  It's got a good hook, I know what to expect, and I don't have to think about it too much.

A younker is a young man...

I just had a schoolaged flashback to the listening portion of the ISTEP.

I still remember the introduction that was used throughout my schoolage years...

"...a baloo is a bear..."
"...a younker is a young man..."
"...wuzzle means to mix..."

I don't know if they're still using these examples, but I'm pretty sure these are ingrained on just about everyone my age.

So today I was looking at the Scrabble calendar that Lissa's mom had gotten me for Christmas.  Today's puzzle is entitled "Change-Ups".  At the top are Scrabble tiles that spell out "Y-O-U-N-G-E-R."  The puzzle reads: "What letter can replace the "G" in the word above to make a new word meaning 'young gentleman'?"

Sure enough, the answer is 'younker'...and I knew it.

I guess I actually learned something from the ISTEP. :P

skip=130

Ok, so I haven't read LJ since July 11. Apparently that puts me on skip=130 of my friends page. I've got a decent bit of catching up to do. I've been busy doing other things and both reading and updating LJ has kind of slipped to the background. But I'm back! So you may get some seemingly delayed comments from me on some old entries.

In the meantime, I wrote and backdated a few entries for things that have been going on in the interim. Here's some links for anyone interested:
